The 7th almost-annual “birthday benefit” party will bring a horn-driven jazz band, Mardi Gras-inspired costumes, and an indoor street fair food fest to the midcoast on March 4th.
March Forth! For LifeFlight features Brooklyn based band Huntertones, a high energy horn-driven group founded in Columbus, OH and currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Their signature sound is a marriage of inspired improvisation and adventurous compositions that meld jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, R&B, and rock.
Home Kitchen Café is cooking up tasty assortment of festival foods, including jambalaya, falafel, empanadas, and more. Desserts include King Cake, cookies, and cupcakes from Laugh Loud Smile Big. Coffee and a cash bar round out the treats. The Bill Barnes Trio will play jazz during dinner.
Festivalgoers are encouraged to break out their masks and beads and headpieces for a chance at costume contest prizes. Jim Dugan will host a photo booth. A raffle features two prize packages: a Boston weekend with Cape Air tickets, hotel, restaurant, and museum passes; and a local Eat for a Week package, featuring gift certificates from more than a dozen midcoast restaurants.
All proceeds will benefit LifeFlight of Maine, a nonprofit organization and this state’s only critical care helicopter transporter. Specifically, funds raised will go toward the purchase of two new helicopters needed to replace the two that have transported 14,000 people in Maine in the last 13 years.
The event is the 7th in the Birthday Benefit series, events created by Shannon Thompson of Camden to celebrate her birthday “in a fun and meaningful way, bringing together great people and great music to raise a pile of money to donate to a good cause.” With various beneficiaries, past events have together raised over $20,000 dollars, with hundreds of people contributing.

The show, with cash bar, starts at 7:30 and tickets for the show alone are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Info and tickets: www.birthdaybenefit.org or 207-230-7092.
